American Marriage
Counseling Associates
Dear Friend's &
Client's,
It
is my belief that most couple's may benefit from either individual counseling or
psychotherapy in conjunction with marriage counseling to develop greater
insights for learning more about yourself and your special relationships.
In
my view, the counseling process should stimulate new coping mechanisms that are important to a
sense of well being and so forth.
On
the other hand, psychotherapy is a more targeted treatment of a symptom, issue or
problem utilizing a variety of scientific principles and
techniques with the goal of inducing a change
in thinking or behavior or for the reduction of those symptoms towards
stabilization and beyond.
These
psychologically related symptoms have apparently caused various emotional reactions that
can significantly affect an individual's ability for high level functioning,
communication and the general pursuit of happiness.
Oftentimes,
people get depressed and discouraged due to situations and circumstances or
have been traumatized in the past.Perhaps, most commonly people become
depressed over relationships or related disappointments and losses.
Frequently,
drugs and alcohol complicate matters for various physical and psychological
reasons and sometimes require detoxification under medical supervision.
There
are others who are physically ill and have been prescribed various medications that
have not helped or made things worse and as such require a reevaluation by
competent specialized physicians. In these situations a second or even a third
opinion is indicated. In the past, many others have already attempted either
individual or marriage counseling and have become more discouraged.
Obviously,
in a time of crisis, it is generally not advisable to attempt to make important
life decisions, since confusion agitation, anxiety and severe depression are
amongst the symptoms that can interfere with proper thinking or decision making
processes.
We
are very interested in assisting and supporting such individuals in making
important assessments about their special situations, so that we can
collectively determine those specialized services or treatment options that may
be available at this special and pivotal time of need or perhaps a time of
desperation.
